HIDA Summarizes Federal COVID-19 Regulations & PPE Guidance

Multiple federal agencies are releasing guidance in an effort to help frontline healthcare workers prevent the spread of COVID-19. HIDA Government Affairs has created three documents summarizing these regulations by agency.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of medical devices. FDA has issued several updates around the regulation of PPE, diagnostics, and other medical devices used to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

CMS is the agency responsible for implementing the Medicare program and is charged with coordinating with states and territories on the implementation of Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CMS has issued several policies around reimbursement to support providers financially as they treat COVID-19 patients.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC)

The CDC is the agency responsible for issuing public health guidance as it relates to the spread and prevention of infectious diseases. CDC has released a number of new guidances around the use of PPE as healthcare workers and the public work to limit the spread of COVID-19.
