Part 1 of 3: The Upcoming Flu Season

Flu Vaccine Report

The 2022–2023 U.S. flu season peaked earlier than in past years, with confirmed influenza-like illnesses and hospitalizations in October 2022. Over 26 million influenza-like illnesses and 290,000 hospitalizations were reported in the previous flu season. Following the Southern Hemisphere’s lead, the U.S. prepares for a potentially difficult 2023-2024 flu season.

Download the first of three preview reports for early insights into the upcoming flu season, including:

  • An estimated 166.5 million flu vaccine doses will be manufactured for the upcoming 2023–2024 flu season.
  • Earlier flu vaccination is recommended for children in the U.S. receiving two doses of the influenza vaccine.
  • In the 2023-2024 Australia flu season, 80% of those admitted to the hospital with flu-related symptoms have been children.
