Distributor Execs Share Supply Chain Insights at HIDA
Streamlining Healthcare Conference 2013

Signs of optimism seen for independent physician market.
Alexandria, Va. – HIDA’s annual Streamlining Healthcare Conference attracted hundreds of distributors,
manufacturers, and providers to the nation’s capital to discuss strategic responses to a transforming healthcare environment.
Attendees heard insights on the healthcare supply chain during provider panel discussions and in six Leaders in Healthcare Amphitheater interviews, featuring more than a dozen distributor and manufacturer executives:
McKesson Medical-Surgical President Stanton McComb expresses optimism about the physician market. “We believe that independent physician practices will maintain a prominent place in our healthcare ecosystem for the foreseeable future,” says McComb.
Mercedes Medical COO Andy Wright predicts improving technology will allow providers to make quick, informed decisions. “We’re beginning to see early development of mobile apps with a tie-in to medical devices and distributor websites. Improved ordering functionality, inventory monitoring and data analytics are all areas where we think the market is heading,” explains Wright.
Lynn Medical owner Chris Fagnani describes how distribution’s future success lies in services. “Supply chain partners are asserting themselves by focusing more on services and technology than disposables, particularly with electronic medical record consulting. The ‘whole product’ concept, which allows physicians to save time and practice medicine effectively, should be adopted industry-wide,” comments Fagnani.
