Pedigree Victory as President Signs

Drug Quality & Security Act Into Law

Alexandria, Va. – Wednesday, November 27, 2013, the president signed into law the Drug Quality and Security Act (H.R. 3204), establishing a strong, uniform federal prescription drug-tracing standard. The bill was negotiated between the House and Senate chambers during the August Congressional recess, passed the House in September by a voice vote and unanimously passed the Senate in early November.

“This legislative victory represents the culmination of years of hard work by HIDA and its members, who advocated tirelessly to educate members of Congress on the urgent need to simplify existing state ‘pedigree’ requirements,” said HIDA President & CEO Matthew J. Rowan. “On behalf of medical-surgical products distributors, HIDA applauds Congress and the president for working together to enact this legislation.”

HIDA Government Affairs has created a summary of H.R. 3204, which includes a flowchart highlighting the information required to be passed by trading partners.
