HIDA Releases New Resource Tracking Patient Volumes By Market Segment

December 2022 figures show ASCs, labs and physician offices above December 2021 levels

Volatility of demand for healthcare products has increased since the beginning of the pandemic, making it challenging for healthcare companies to understand which market segments are growing and how their results compare to the overall industry. To help its members better track demand trends, HIDA has created a new monthly resource with original, detailed analysis on recent activity in key market segments.

HIDA’s new Patient Volumes Chartbook shows patient volume in six key settings: ambulatory surgery centers, hospital outpatient, hospital inpatient, labs, physician offices, and skilled nursing facilities. Demand in all sectors declined during the pandemic – but some patient sites are rebounding. Patient volumes at ASCs, labs, and physician offices are up compared to December 2021.  As the backlog of elective procedures begins to ease, ASCs are also experiencing volumes above pre-pandemic levels.  Nursing homes are the slowest to recover and volumes continue to lag behind both 2021 and pre-pandemic levels.

The Patient Volumes Chartbook includes market-specific data including:
  • Patient volumes trended for the last 46 months, by site of care
  • Recent patient volumes (December 2022) within each market compared to both 2021 and pre-pandemic levels
  • Percent increase/decrease over last December’s volume levels

This new resource is available as a free member benefit. Download it here.
