Arlington, Va. – Fifty leading manufacturer and distributor executives recently gathered as part of HIDA’s Thought Leaders project to discuss the revolutionary changes occurring in healthcare and how manufacturers and distributors can best respond.

The forum was a focal point of the HIDA Educational Foundation’s
Thought Leaders project with McKinsey & Company.  The project also incorporated dozens of interviews with healthcare provider and group purchasing executives for their perspectives on trends including reimbursement cuts, consolidation, and healthcare reform.

“We started the project to understand the rapid changes occurring in our industry and their impact on our members,” said Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Hilla.  “These changes are profound. For example, providers who were interviewed said they are under pressure to cut as much as 30% from their supply chain costs.”

Participants discussed a total of 16 different strategic recommendations relating to four key themes that resulted from research. Final recommendations and key themes will be presented in an upcoming white paper and released at HIDA’s Executive Conference in March.
