HIDA Supports AHCA Statement On Need For PPE In Nursing Homes

Alexandria, VA – The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) supports the American Health Care Association’s statement that nursing home workers who care for COVID-19 patients must have vital personal protective equipment (PPE).

AHCA President & CEO Mark Parkinson emphasized the need for PPE to all nursing homes.

In a March 28 press release, AHCA addressed state orders directing nursing homes to accept hospital patients regardless of their COVID status. New York’s order, for example, requires all nursing facilities to accept any discharged hospital patient, even those who have tested positive for the virus or who have not been tested.

“This approach will introduce the highly contagious virus into more nursing homes,“ said Parkinson. “The solution is for hospital patients to be discharged to nursing homes that…have the vital personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to keep the staff safe.”

“We support AHCA in emphasizing the need for PPE in post-acute settings,” said HIDA President and CEO Matthew J. Rowan. “PPE is critical to protect workers and patients in post-acute facilities.”
