HIDA Corrects Misrepresentations and Factual Errors in News Media

Washington Post:  “Daschle Delayed Revealing Tax Glitch.” Feb. 1, 2009

The article attempts to establish a non-existent link between two unrelated events.  1) Tom Daschle’s March 2008 speaking engagement at a HIDA event and 2) a letter the association wrote to HHS Secretary Designate Daschle last month.

HIDA's Response Letter

Politico.com: “Health care groups paid Daschle $220K.” Jan. 30, 2009

Politico Article:   “Daschle met with it (HIDA) after he was nominated (as HHS Secretary) to discuss ‘the impact an Obama administration will have on the industry.'

Correction:  This is not correct.  Daschle spoke to HIDA during an event in March 2008 – nine months prior to being nominated for HHS Secretary.  There was no meeting or other communication since March 2008.
