HIDA members comply with licensure requirements in 46 states to deliver prescription drugs, devices, and medical equipment to healthcare providers.
HIDA has worked with many different states to refine their definitions of "devices" in their licensure requirements. HIDA’s work has included:
- Model definitions for medical products to help staff regulators who oversee distribution
- 50-state licensure report to raise awareness of existing laws and regulations
- Comment letters sent to legislators and regulators considering changes affecting medical products distributors
- Suggesting amended language when appropriate

This comprehensive report details each state and the federal government's licensure requirements for pharmaceutical and medical device distributors. Currently, distributors must comply with 46 different state laws, but they can use the Licensure Standards report to follow the latest regulatory developments on prescription drugs, devices, and medical equipment. This report is revised annually and is available in PDF format. Publication date: June 2010.
