Health Information Technology
Recent reports show that public acceptance of electronic health records (EHR) is growing with as many as 63% of adults reporting their belief that such records can significantly decrease the frequency of medical errors.
Another 23% of adults report their physicians already maintain electronic records for them. HIDA research indicates physician EHR adoption rates hover at 28 percent with the highest implementation occurring in practices with three or more physicians where cost barriers have less impact.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009 and created $19 billion to spur health information technology adoption by physicians and hospitals.
